Faysal Quraishi’s performance in Raaja Rani is facing backlash from viewers.
The actor plays a man grappling with mental health issues and emotional immaturity.
However, many fans believe the character doesn’t suit him, with criticism centring around his age, performance style, and even his makeup.
Directed by Amin Iqbal and penned by Sana Zafar, Raaja Rani explores the complex emotional life of its central character.
The story aims to shed light on psychological challenges faced by adults with underdeveloped emotional intelligence.
But instead of empathy, the portrayal has sparked frustration among viewers.
According to viewers, Faysal Quraishi feels miscast in a role that is better suited for a younger actor.
Several fans took to social media to express disappointment.
One wrote: “They should have cast someone else to play the younger version of the character, and Faysal for the older age.”
Another said: “Faysal Quraishi and Hina look like father and daughter.”
Others drew comparisons to Imran Ashraf’s performance as Bhola in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi.
Imran’s role set a benchmark for depicting mentally challenged characters on Pakistani television.
One comment read: “Now every actor wants to perform such characters to gain fame like Imran Ashraf. By the way, he is already a favourite actor.”
Critics also questioned the believability of the storyline and casting choices.
One scene in particular confused viewers when Faysal’s character referred to a character as “aunty”.
A user said: “I thought they were husband and wife, and then he called her aunty, seriously? What is wrong with casting these days?”
Many pointed out that the actor appears close in age to Javed Sheikh, who plays his father in the show.
Fans have also pointed out the excessive makeup, making Faysal’s appearance look overly polished and unnatural.
A viewer remarked: “He looks even older due to excessive foundation.”
Another said: “What is Faysal’s obsession with layering makeup? Does he think it makes him look younger?”
Others pointed out that there was too much “overacting” on Faysal’s part.
Still, some loyal fans defended him, saying the exaggerated performance was necessary to capture the character’s condition.
However, many felt it’s time for Faysal to consider more age-appropriate roles.
Produced by BJ Productions and Momina Duraid, Raaja Rani also stars Hina Afridi, Arez Ahmed, Salma Zafar Asim, and Javed Sheikh.
Despite its strong cast and promising theme, the drama is struggling to connect with audiences, largely due to Faysal Quraishi’s lead role.
